There are basically two
types of Networks. Wired and Wireless.
Wired
Networks have been around for
many years. They are very fast and reliable.
A Wired Network consists of more than
one computer, a connection point (Router,
Switch, or Hub), and cables to connect
them.
The only problem with Wired
Networks is the need to run cables to the
computers. If you have computers on multiple
floors and did not pre-wire, then you have
to drill holes and hide the cables. This
can be done, but there is another solution.
Wireless
Networks have become the Network
of choice. For Residential and Commercial
use, the Technology has advanced to the
point where performance and security
are no longer an issue. A Wireless Network
consists of the same basic components
as a Wired Network minus the cables.
Here is a typical Wireless
Network Setup:
- Existing Cable or DSL
Modem
- Install Wireless Router
and Software
- Install Wireless Adapter
and Software for any PC that is not near
the Router
- Configure
Network and Security for all PC’s
